Byebye.

善本:Byebye.

Golden Faith Theme Songs

Repeat *

Repeat *

Repeat *

Planning Ahead

I had been reading about Clover's posts about her detailed planning of the ideal age for marriage and hence a relationship with potential sometime back. While I have long left matters of the heart to fate, what struck a chord with me was the kind of specificity I used employ while attempting to chart out my "life plans" when life seemed as simple and predictable as a conveyor belt.

For example, when I was very young (around primary 3), my plan was something like this: finish primary school at 12 years old -> finish secondary school at 16 years old -> complete JC at 18 years old -> graduate from University at 22-23 years old -> get married at 24 years old -> have a child at 25 years old. The only external factor I thought I had to consider during my "planning" was my parents' age (and hence the haste :p). At that time, even my height was not spared from my "planning list". I figured out that if I were to grow by 5cm every year, I would be 170cm by the time I stop growing at the common age of 14 (but alas, that was not to be!) Another subject which I still like to make plans on till this day (more for fun than anything else) is baby names.

However as we grow older, the system doesn't remain static. While it had been easy to chart one's life in the early years as the education system in Singapore was pretty fixed then, the choices we are opened to become more and more varied as we mature. It is increasingly difficult to be specific in our planning of certain things as our plans can be clouded by a multitude of external factors, as well as chance. What makes our future course of life uncertain also makes it a lot more interesting.

My friend, upon learning of my latest Gallen Lo songs fever, volunteered in between muffled giggles to lend me a Gallen Lo album which she had bought for her mum, an offer which I gladly accepted. Yay, more Gallen Lo songs for me in days to come, haha.

On my WMP Playlist: Gallen Lo

Forget David, Jay, Penny, Cheer, Fish, Wayne etc for now. Gallen Lo is in, not by virtue of his not-too-impressive vocals, but because of melodies that tell stories.

It all started with the TVB drama serial, Golden Faith, in which he acted as a goody do-gooder bound by obligations, a role that is similar to his previous roles in e.g. Chuang Shi Ji. The good thing is that I seldom watch HK drama, so I don't really find it boring. The pairing of the golden couple on the silver screen - Jessica Hsuen and Gallen Lo, also provides for plenty of eye candy.

What I like most is its soundtrack. From young, since the SBC days, I'm attracted to drama themes, as there's usually a story that we can relate to behind every song. My familiarity with the SBC songs is attributed to the good old days when my group of cousins held singing competitions among ourselves during our weekly gathering...haha...wonder why my singing is still so poor after so many years :p. Ok I shall stop digressing... I discovered that the theme songs for many of the TVB drama are nice when I started listening to the soundtrack of Yi Hao Huang Ting. As I usually pay more attention to the tune of a song, even though I don't undertstand Cantonese, a song will have the capacity to remain on my playlist until I tire of it as long as the enunciation of the lyrics matches the song (with a nice melody, of course).

So, from the 3 songs in Golden Faith (Sui Yue De Tong Hua, Yang Guang Can Lan De Ri Zi, Dang Ai Qing Zou Dao Jin Tou), I expanded my playlist to include many of Gallen Lo's other songs like Chuang Shi Ji's theme - Zhun Wo Liu Xia, Ran Wo Dai Ni Hao, Xiang Jian Xiang Ai Shang Hai. His fast songs are quite a disaster though :p.

Was catching up recently with an old acquaintance whom I last spoke to 4 years ago, whose msn picture was coincidentally set to Gallen Lo's photo, and the parting shot was that, it is quite interesting that while we seldom had anything in common to talk at length then, over the years we have acquired interests and experiences that are rather similar. The strange dynamics of friendship under the forces of time and distance...some food for thought...
